If
you are a lover of White Russians or a Colorado Bulldog or even
the undervalued Kahlua sour, you know the terrible feeling that
comes to mind when your Kahlua bottle runs dry. And it's not a sick
feeling in the stomach or anything, but rather a pressure on the
backpocket where your wallet is sitting. It's expensive, let's not
lie about it. It also doesn't have to be though... let's not lie
about that either. This homemade recipe tastes exactly like the
real thing! I've tried a couple recipes and this one works best.
Save yourself some money and build up an arsenal of homemade Kahlua.
1. For this recipe you will need the following ingredients:
2 Cups Water
4 Cups Sugar
2 oz. Instant Coffee (must be instant!)
2 Cups Vodka
6-8 oz. Imitation Vanilla
2. Bring the water and sugar to a boil in a large
pot on the stove.
3. Once it has reached a boil, start stirring (while
still boiling) for 2 minutes.
4. Add the instant coffee granules and immediately
remove from heat.
5. Stir until most of coffee granules are dissolved
(if you don't keep stirring, it will form a film on the top. This
step may take "some" time - 5 to 10 minutes)
6. Let the mixture cool completely.
7. Once cooled, add the vanilla and vodka, stirring
well.
8. Bottle and store in a cool, dark place for 2 weeks.
Afterwards, it's ready for some great cocktails! If you buy the
cheap vodka, (it won't make a difference) the cost should come out
to about $4 a bottle.
